Reiki and Qi Gong are both traditions of using universal energy to heal.
Reiki hails from a Japanese tradition in which healing symbols are passed from teacher to student. Hand positions that support the energetic body follow roughly the chakra system. The practitioner becomes a "hollow bone" to allow the smooth flow of Universal Energy to flow to parts of the body or emotions that are asking for attention. Reiki can be done distantly, and does not require hands-on touch. A recipient generally experiences relaxation, peacefulness, warmth. I have personally had reiki done to me to heal severe cat bites, dysentery, knee injuries, and anxiety, all with success.
Qi Gong is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves breath work and gentle movements to cultivate Universal chi, or energy. Qi gong can be used for self practice, to allow the smooth flow of energy around the meridians of the body. Qi gong can also be channeled and directed towards a recipient or particular body part. I consider Qi Gong and Reiki to be of the same spectrum of energy work. In my opinion, I consider reiki to be more passive (get out of the way of the healing energy flowing through!) and qi gong to me directive, in that I generally am intending the qi to a specific location in the body. Animals love both! Qi gong classes are available for all levels, and approximates the type of energy movement that happens with acupuncture, but without needles.
